Tesla is advancing home energy storage with the introduction of Powerwall 3 expansion units.
Specifically designed to compliment the Powerwall 3, these add-ons require no DNO application, simplifying the installation process and reducing costs for systems with two or more units. Simply, the expansion pack is a Powerwall 3 but without a power inverter. Meaning homeowners can stack the expansion pack with a normal Powerwall 3 which adds 13.5 kWh of energy capacity with each expansion.
With the first UK deliveries expected for March 2025, the expansion units provide a scalable, cost-effective solution for homeowners seeking energy independence — whether they already own a Powerwall 3 or plan to install one.

Stackable Design and Floor Mounting
Tesla offers a stackable configuration, allowing up to three expansion units to connect to a single Powerwall 3. This creates a compact, efficient floor-mounted system, ideal for homes with limited wall space. A wall-mount kit is also available to create a ‘daisy chain’ installation, offering flexibility for varying home layouts.
Increased Capacity
Each expansion unit provides 13.5 kWh of energy storage. With one Powerwall 3 and three expansions, the system can reach a total capacity of 54 kWh, ideal for storing solar energy or backup power. The Powerwall 3 is capable of supporting high-demand household appliances such as electric showers and heat pumps effortlessly. With the option to expand using additional packs, homeowners have the flexibility to increase their energy independence and scale the system to meet their energy needs.
Streamlined Installation
Expansion units simplify installation, cutting times in half compared to traditional setups. They are designed for easy integration with single or multiple Powerwalls.
Expansion Harness Wiring
Heavy-duty, non-metallic cables are available in three lengths for indoor and outdoor use, ensuring flexible system configurations.
Optimised Dimensions
The expansion units share the same height and width as the Powerwall 3 but are slightly thinner in depth, making them more space-efficient.
