Trainee PV Installer/Roofer (full time)
Love working outside as part of a skilled team, gaining new skills and doing something good for the planet?
Start your renewable career with us as a Solar Installer! We’re one of the leading installation organisations in the South-West (2024 Winner of the Regional Solar PV Installer and Contractor of the Year). We pride ourselves on our friendly Company culture and our fantastic customer service.
Job Title: Trainee PV Installer/Roofer (full time)
We offer a structured job progression route for those wanting to start their career in Solar Photo Voltaic (PV) system installations. You don’t need installation experience as we can train you, but you do need the right attitude and core skills.
The job involves:
Installing solar panels on residential and business buildings, on car ports and also in ground-mount large systems. You’ll be working outdoors and working at height (on ladders and scaffolding), so following procedures and health and safety guidance is essential. Lifting PV panels, equipment and batteries into the correct place requires good manual-handling. You will be trained and issued with a variety of tools and technical equipment and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) so that you can do your job safely.
Our installers work in teams, checking and measuring areas for installation, adjusting roof surfaces to ensure panels fit and have sufficient support. They can also maintain and repair systems. We’ll train you on all the different roof surface types and mounts and installing electrical wiring ready for our electricians. There is plenty of opportunity to develop your career in installation and you may find you enjoy site responsibilities or the electrical-side, so we’ll work with you to find the right career plan for you.
The focus of this Trainee role is to gain the knowledge, skills and experience of a Solar PV Installer so you can support colleagues and be a valuable member of our installation teams.
What we’re looking for…
We’re looking for individuals that are reliable and can be trusted, as you’re the face of the Company to our customers. Being organised with your equipment, turning up on time, helping colleagues so as a team you can efficiently load and unload vehicles, focusing your energy on doing a great job, getting on with teammates, so each day is enjoyable for everyone. You’ll need excellent communication and people skills and pride in how we present ourselves, so our customers are clear of our progress and confident in our expertise. You will need good physical fitness for working outdoors, at height and manual-handling. Following procedures will ensure safety and quality is consistently achieved. We’re looking for individuals with initiative, proactivity and problem-solving skills. We can’t plan for every eventuality, so you need to be able to think on your feet. You’ll need to log data on our mobile-app systems, use MS Teams and emails, practical maths skills, attention to detail and the ability to learn technical electrical information.
You’ll need a full UK driving licence, as our teams travel to sites throughout South-west England for installations (and occasionally national travel). An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.
If you have relevant experience, a CSCS card, a forklift or other relevant qualifications, that’s a bonus, let us know.
