Payment Solutions for Solar PV and Battery Storage

Solar PV is the most effective way to decarbonise, commit to net-zero goals, reduce energy costs, and ensure long-term energy security.

There are various ways to finance a solar PV system that allow you to enjoy these benefits. Whatever your business model, SunGift Solar can work with you to find the best solution. We have worked with customers who have financed solar PV projects for schools, local authorities, multinational companies, SMEs and everything in between.

Examples of financing options include self-funding, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), solar panel leasing, Government grants and green incentive programmes. We will work with you to ensure that you get the best system to deliver long term benefit, whilst adhering to your financing needs and required return of investment (ROI).

Self funding option

Many businesses choose to self-fund the installation of a solar PV system, recognising the advantages of investing their own funds. This is usually the most straightforward way of generating renewable energy with the fastest return on investment.

However, sometimes our customers seek to reduce or eliminate capital outlay, shift financial risk or seek a financing model that fits with wider corporate requirements, and there are numerous options for this. Read on for potential options or get in touch to discuss your needs.

Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) for Solar PV

A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a well established method for financing commercial solar panel installations, involving a contractual arrangement between an investor and a business.

Under this agreement, the investor installs and operates a solar PV system on the business’s property and sells the electricity generated directly to the business at a lower rate than their usual supplier, so, your business can purchase clean, renewable solar electricity at an agreed metered supply rate, typically 30-50% lower than current utility rates.

This allows your business to benefit from a solar PV installation without the upfront costs, with savings from day one without any capital investment. The terms of the agreement can be flexible, with terms usually ranging from 10 to 30 years, providing businesses with some of the long term advantages of solar PV, including reduced energy costs and environmental benefit.

Our role is to design, build and maintain your system while partnering with carefully vetted, industry-leading third parties. With 20 years of experience, we have the expertise to help you select the best providers for your PPA.

Advantages of PPA for Businesses

1.

No Upfront Costs

PPAs do not require upfront capital investment from a business, making them a cost-effective solution. Additionally, they provide clear visibility on ROI ensuring predictable financial returns over time.

2.

Optimised for Your Business or Organisation

A PPA can be structured in multiple ways, allowing it to be bespoke to meet the specific needs of each energy user or your business.

3.

Price Security

A PPA offers a fixed electricity cost, shielding your business from rising energy prices and providing long-term financial stability.

Who is Eligible for PPA?

  • Company Size and Energy Consumption: Businesses with higher energy demands typically have more PPA options available. We will work with you to assess your energy consumption and determine the best approach.
  • Location and Premises: Your location must be suitable for a renewable energy project. SunGift will assess the most cost-effective placement, considering all available options. If a rooftop installation isn’t feasible, a ground-mounted system may be recommended. We’ll provide expert guidance to ensure the best solution for your site.
  • Energy Usage Patterns: If your energy usage varies significantly, your business may not be an ideal candidate for a PPA. We can review your usage pattern with you to help determine this.

Asset Finance

Asset financing covers various funding solutions to enable businesses to invest in solar PV systems without requiring upfront payment. In certain circumstances, this option allows you to secure a loan to own the system outright straight away, with other options such as leasing or hire purchase potentially also available.

With asset financing, your business usually has full responsibility and eventually ownership of the solar PV system, benefiting from the energy it generates both during and after the finance term. However, you will also usually be responsible for its servicing and maintenance.

Our customers often have preferred lenders and we are used to working to diverse lender requirements. If you are looking into an asset finance route but do not have a lender in mind, SunGift Solar can give you the benefit of our contacts and experience.

Our expertise includes helping organisations from small schools to large businesses to meet grant criteria and secure funding.
